Independent machine safety expertise

Risk Control Engineering Pty Ltd provides practical, independent engineering advice for safer machinery, compliant systems and controlled risk. With more than 30 years across electrical, automation and industrial control systems, plus TÜV Functional Safety Engineer qualifications, we help clients understand what needs to change and how to prove it works.

Based in the Riverina NSW and North East Victoria, with a presence in Melbourne and Sydney, we support industrial clients nationwide. Our work complements asset owners, machine builders, manufacturers, electrical contractors, automation companies, OEMs and system integrators—providing machinery risk assessment, safety requirements, design review, verification and validation without needing to supply the automation system.

Machinery Safety Engineering Services

Risk Control Engineering helps industrial clients determine whether machinery is safe, what needs to change and how the result can be demonstrated. Our independent support covers the complete lifecycle: Assess the Risk → Specify the Safety Requirements → Design → Verify → Implement → Validate.

With more than 30 years across electrical, automation and control systems, we provide practical advice for new machinery, upgrades, audits and complex automated equipment.

Assess the Risk & Specify Requirements

Identify machinery hazards, review guarding and access arrangements, and complete or assess machinery risk assessments. We define the required safety functions, determine the Performance Level required (PLr), and prepare clear Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS).

Support includes functional machine safety reviews and assistance with AS 4024 and relevant ISO/IEC machinery safety standards.

Design & Verify Safety Functions

Develop and review practical safety-related control architectures for emergency stops, guard interlocking, access control, safe stopping, isolation and trapped-key systems. We also assess safety PLCs, safety I/O, redundant outputs and industrial safety networks.

Verification includes ISO 13849 Performance Level and Category calculations, design reviews and fault considerations for robotic, automated and legacy machinery.

Implement, Validate & Improve

Validate completed safety functions under normal, abnormal and fault conditions, confirming that each function operates as specified. We provide structured testing, evidence and practical recommendations for machinery compliance and ongoing maintenance.

Our independent engineering support works alongside asset owners, electrical contractors, OEMs, automation companies and system integrators—whether improving existing equipment or delivering new systems.

Practical Engineering Experience

Multi-zone robotic cell safety validation

Safety lifecycle support for a complex robotic system with guarded zones, controlled access, teach modes, emergency stops and pneumatic safety functions. The work covered risk assessment, safety requirements, design review, verification and validation testing.

Safety PLC and networked I/O review

Independent review of safety-related control architecture, including safety PLC logic, remote safety I/O, redundant outputs and industrial safety networks. The focus was a practical, maintainable design that could be verified and tested.

Guarding and access control engineering

Assessment of guarded machinery, interlocking arrangements, emergency stops and trapped-key access concepts. Recommendations aligned the safety functions with the machine hazards, operating modes and required Performance Level.

Legacy machinery safety upgrade review

Structured engineering support for upgrading older equipment and closing safety gaps identified during audits or modification projects. Reviews considered energy isolation, pneumatic and hydraulic control, emergency stopping and ISO 13849 verification.

Practical engineering. Proven risk control.

Independent support for safer machinery, compliant systems and controlled risk. With more than 30 years across industrial electrical, automation and control engineering, Risk Control Engineering helps clients move from uncertainty to evidence-based safety decisions.
